Fantasylands 2 - A bridge to far?

It was not the quite the massive success we have become used to as of late. Numbers were down on Fantasylands 1 which was a disappointment to all involved. I do think though that there are a number of clear reasons why this happened and we are working hard on taking steps to avoid this happening again. But here are my thoughts:

1. The event was far to soon after Allstars. We were not keen on doing the date so soon, but Colours were desperate to make Fantasylands a seaonsonal event with Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn.... These events are big dos with lots to see and do, but that means they are not cheap. People only have so much to spend and every 2 months is to months

2. Current economic bad news... With the news channels banging on about the global credit crunch, property crash etc etc, I am sure people are going to be a little more careful about laying out so much all the time.

3. Music policy. Now personally I think it would be wiser to focus the music towards one end on the spectrum, and have Old Skool, Hardcore, Drum n bass etc as opposed to mixing it all with the other spectrum. Its nice to have a house or techno room, but not all of the other arenas!

4. Entry policy nightmare from Allstars. Clearly the over zealous restrictions from Allstars put off people who didnt want to take the risk of not getting in even if they were over 18. Most dont want to carry a passport around if you are 21! I am glad to say we have managed to get these relaxed and future events will be much more like the earlier ones. It should never have got to this point though, and for that we apologies.

5. The actual date itself was not great this year. Mid month is always a no no, events should be held after a pay day! Plus with Easter early but holidays during the event things were really quite confused.

6. More old skool anthems. I personally love the old skool anthems but is it be or has their been less recently... more Old Skool please, these are big nights and the DJs (even if they are bored of them) need to give us the big choons!

Is Fantasylands dead as a brand? I hope not, but expect a gap for a while
